We are officially in the home stretch!
I had another ultrasound and check up yesterday, and our little guy is still measuring fine (20-30th percentile), and everything is looking good. He weighs about 6 lbs. 10 oz. but the ultrasound tech said that could vary by about a half of a pound in either direction because it was hard to get an accurate measurement of his head because he is so low. I know it’s pretty impossible to make out in the ultrasound photo above, but that is a side profile view of him sucking on his fingers. He was doing that during the entire ultrasound…so cute :-). My cervix is “really soft” and I’m about a finger tip dilated, so maybe he’ll make his appearance soon. Still not feeling any contractions though.
My next appointment isn’t until 12/26, two days after my due date, so that is the soonest we will be able to induce if he doesn’t come on his own before then.
Now we’re just playing the waiting game. I still think he’s going to come after his due date. He’s more than welcome to prove me wrong though. I just hope he doesn’t end up sharing a birthday with his sister (12/23) or with Jesus.
Your Baby in Week 39 of Pregnancy
Your baby’s waiting to greet the world! He continues to build a layer of fat to help control his body temperature after birth, but it’s likely he already measures about 20 inches and weighs a bit over 7 pounds, about the size of a mini-watermelon. (Boys tend to be slightly heavier than girls.) The outer layers of his skin are sloughing off as new skin forms underneath.
